Older Kawasaki Vulcan or a newer Suzuki savage?

I found a 1992 Kawasaki Vulcan that looks really nice. I also found a 1998 Suzuki Savage. The Savage is a thumper or a single cylinder and sounds a bit like a lawn mower but it’s newer. Which should I get and why??
Looking for my first bike.
